The original Durand is perfect in every way! To this day, hundreds of thousands of miles later, they're still comfortable, but no longer waterproof. I was totally willing to buy another pair, but they're liquidating them. I took a chance on this new version, and it's terrible. 1) Ankle cut??? Why?? Keen also got rid of the loop on the back. Less ankle support means less confidence in the trail, and I can feel that from my feet up. 2) Narrower build. I've NEVER had to get a wide pair of Keens, but if I keep these "updated" Durand, I'll have to exchange them for a wide. The sides now dig straight into the joint of my pinky toe and hurts after about two hours of hiking. 3) Softer laces = less durable. I still have the original laces on my original Durand... these ones are softer and you can tell just by holding them that they're less durable. At least they kept the two rows of hooks and added a third row. That's the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. They did one thing right with this update, but it won't be enough for me to keep them around. I really don't wanna switch companies and believe firmly in buying domestically, but you gotta quit doing this, Keen! If it isn't broke, don't fix it!
